There are countless animals on the entire planet Earth that can be classified according to their reproduction, according to their diet or according to their habitat, among others. However, it is not surprising that we can also classify animals according to the letter they start with. An example of this is the following article on our site, where we are going to number some of the animals that begin with S, in addition to commenting on some of their characteristics.
Salmon
Salmon (Salmo) is a marine fish that belongs to the genus Salmo, just like trout. These are fish found around almost the entire world, since only a few very specific species live in Europe and Asia.
One of the curiosities of salmon is that they are a diadromous genus, that is, they are born in fresh water, go to s alt water to grow and return to the same fresh waters to reproduce. On the other hand, there are more than 20 different species of salmon, among which we can highlight the Salmo abanticus, the Salmo akairos, the Salmo chilo and the Salmo dentex.
Snake
Snakes (Serpentes) are reptiles that stand out for their absence of limbs. Their anatomy is based on an elongated body with a backbone and skeleton that allows them to move both on land and in water,
They are carnivorous animals that feed on insects, other fish, frogs and even eggs in order to survive. Although in some areas they are considered a pest, snakes are of great help as they control the rodent population.

Firing salamander
Also known as the common salamander, salamanders (Salamandra salamandra) are amphibians that stand out for their small size, since they can measure from 18 to 28 centimeters. All of their skin is smooth, but the contrast of colors draws attention to them, since their background is black but with striking bright yellow regions. It is an ovoviviparous animal with a terrestrial habitat and night habits that lives in humid forests.

European ground squirrel
Scientifically known as Spermophilus citellus, the European ground squirrel is a rodent that lives in the plains of Western Europe Its origin is found in Bulgaria, more than a million years ago. It has an anatomy similar to that of the marmot, since its body is slightly thin with short legs. Currently, four subspecies of the European ground squirrel are known:
- Spermophilus citellus citellus
- Spermophilus citellus Gradojevici
- Spermophilus citellus istricus
- Spermophilus citellus martinoi
This is a species that has already disappeared in Germany and is highly endangered in the Czech Republic.
Shad
The Prochilodus lineatus is a species of fish that inhabits the rivers of South America, especially those regions such as Paraná, Uruguay and Paraguay. Although its common name is sábalo, it is also known as sábalo jetón, chupabarro or barrero.
It has a size of up to 60 cm and can exceed 6 kg in weight. Its anatomy is elongated and compressed, with a color between gray and green with yellow scales. A curious thing about tarpon is that it is the most abundant species in the Río de Plata, since it makes up more than 60% of the biomass in this place.

The common toad, known as Bufo bufo, is an anuran amphibian within the Bufonidae family that inhabits the stagnant waters and rafts of all of EuropeIt is an animal that we will hardly be able to see during the day, since it hides and only comes out at dusk and at night to feed on invertebrates.
