Origin of the LaPerm cat
This beautiful feline breed arose from a genetic modification that occurred spontaneously in a litter born in the barn of some American farmers, specifically they were born in the state of Oregon, with a curious peculiarity, some of them kittens were born bald and didn't develop their fur until a few months later.
Several breeders were attracted to these rare kittens, creating different breeding programs to develop the breed, which was recognized in 1997 through the creation of the LPSA club and a few years later the TICA established the LaPerm breed standard. These cats are considered a hypoallergenic breed, as they hardly shed hair.
Characteristics of the LaPerm cat
The LaPerm are cats of medium size, weighing between 3 and 5 kilos in females and 4 and 6 in males, these being also a little higher. His body is strong and fibrous, with marked musculature that hides his fur. Its strong hind legs are slightly longer than the front legs. The tail is wide at the base and somewhat thinner at the tip and has a dense and long coat of hair
The head is, like the body, medium in size with a triangular shape and ending in a long snout whose nose is also long and straight. This head is topped by wide, triangular ears with small plumes similar to those of lynxes. His eyes are oval in shape and with a color according to that of his coat
As for the coat, there are two varieties, the LaPerm with long hair and the one with short hair or medium, both are recognized and their colors and patterns can be any of the possibilities that exist, there are no limitations in this regard.
