Are dewormers good for cats?
antiparasitics are a staple product for cats, especially those that have access to the outdoors, being able to suffer an infestation of fleas or ticks, for example. However, the components and steps to follow in commercial products are not always the most appropriate.
At the time of applying them, especially if the cat already has fleas, we must follow a series of rules, such as the cat's bath. Have you ever wondered why? It is not just to keep it clean, it helps us eliminate part of the parasites, but it is an extra problem, and it is not such a simple task as it happens with dogs. If the cat is not used to it, it will be an almost impossible task to carry out.
The industrial pipettes contain drugs that can harm the he alth of our animal, as well as that of the human family. Many animals, especially cats, after applying the pipette begin to lick and ingest the product, and may suffer a intoxication
The same happens if there are small children in the house who play with the cat and then, by sucking their hands, ingest the product. Those are some of the reasons why we want to show you how to make a homemade pipette for cats.
What do we need to make the homemade pipette for cats?
It is advisable to try to obtain all the necessary ingredients in he alth food stores, agroecological crops or from producers that we know reliably that do not use pesticides or chemicals to their crops. Next, we show you the necessary ingredients to make the homemade pipette for cats:
Ingredients
- Neem Oil or Margosa Oil
- Citronella or citronella oil
- Eucalyptus oil
- Peppermint Oil or Tea Tree Oil
- Hypertonic seawater (or natural) or physiological serum
All the products mentioned, except seawater, can be obtained in 50 ml containers (the most indicated) or in 10 or 20 ml containers. The prices vary according to the sizes of the jars but they are really cheap.
To prepare the seawater follow this step by step:
- Go to the sea to get water
- Let it decant for 24 hours
- We'll put it through a coffee filter
However, we can also buy it directly and convert it to isotonic in a 3:1 ratio. The only thing we need to buy is a 2 ml syringe (without needle) for the application and a 10 caramel-colored bottle ml to make the preparation and be able to store the mixture for a while. This way we won't have to prepare it every time we want to deworm.
Preparation of the homemade pipette for cats
As we mentioned before, we can prepare the homemade pipette for cats in a jar and store it for up to 2 months. Remember that we must apply the product once a month. We will do the calculations for the 10 ml:
- Isotonic seawater or serum (65%)=6.5 ml
- Peppermint or Tea Tree Oil (10%)=1 ml
- Eucalyptus Oil (10%)=1 ml
- Citronella or citronella oil (10%)=1 ml
- Neem Oil or Margosa Oil (5%)=0.5 ml
This account will give us the 10 ml of the bottle from which we will get 2 ml per month to deworm our cat. Don't forget to be careful when handling the bottle and use a clean syringe to avoid contaminating the product.
How, when and where to apply the homemade pipette for cats?
To obtain a good result we must apply it correctly: the ideal would be to start with the bath of our feline and, after one or two days we would be able to apply it.
Referring to the doses, we would point out that cats weighing less than 10 kg should use 1.5 ml per month and those that exceed 10 kg of weight around 2 ml. This is a general rule but we always recommend consulting your vet.
The areas to apply will be two, in the neck area, between the two shoulder blades (half the amount) and the area of the hip, a few centimeters before the beginning of the tail (the other half). There are those who prefer only the neck area since, being a small amount, they prefer to focus there.
By following this simple process and, with very few resources, you will be able to keep parasites away from your cat naturally and safely, without fear of harmful chemical compounds.
