The equivalence in age depends on the life stage of the cat
Just as it happens when we try to calculate the human age of a dog, you should know that in the case of cats it is not possible to make statements of the type: each year of a feline is equivalent to 5 years of a human, for instance. This happens because the equivalence between feline years and human years is dynamic and varies depending on the life stage the cat is in.
For example, a cat reaches adulthood at approximately two years of age, which means this short period of time could translate to 24 human years.
On the other hand, when the cat has already reached adulthood and begins to mature progressively until it irremediably becomes an elderly feline, the equivalence between human years and animal years varies.
It could be summarized that in the period that separates a baby kitten from a young / adult kitten, a great growth and maturation takes place, which is equivalent to a good amount of human years, but when the organism has fully completed its development, the difference begins to decrease noticeably.
Human age in the puppy cat
During the first six months of life the equivalence between feline and human years is as follows:
- First month of life: 1 year
- Between the second and third month of life: 2-4 years
- By the fourth month: 6-8 years
- At six months: 10 years
Human age in the young and adolescent cat
At this stage the cat's body is just maturing in aspects such as behavior and sexuality. Until our pet reaches 2 years of life, the following equivalences can be established:
- From 7 to 12 months: 12-15 years
- From 12 to 18 months: 17:21 years
- At age 2: 24 human years
Human age in the mature and adult cat
A cat is considered an adult and mature at 3 years of age and this life stage will last approximately until he is 6 years old. It would be equivalent to the following human ages:
- At 3 years old: 28 years old
- From 4 to 5 years old: 30-36 years old
- At 6 years old: 40 years old
Adulthood in the elderly cat
From the age of 7 years the cat will gradually enter what we would consider old age. They can live for over 100 human years!
