Physical appearance

Without a doubt, the physical appearance of the red-eyed tree frog is spectacular, we can enjoy just looking at it because it is a frog with wonderful and garish colors. Although they usually show a striking green color, the red-eyed green frog can be blue or yellow, although, yes, The frog's eyes are always an intense red colorWe found small details on its body such as orange tones on the legs and blue on certain parts of the body.

They present a slight sexual dimorphism, with the males being smaller and the females somewhat larger. The legs have unique adhesive discs, specific for being able to jump and climb properly in the undergrowth of their habitat.

Finally detailing that the frog's green color with red eyes is due to its toxicity: it warns animals that it has toxins ready to act in its body. They also give off a very strong garlic odor which also acts as a deterrent.

Behaviour

They are solitary specimens that only

If what we are looking for is a frog to appreciate its beauty, you have found the ideal specimen, but yes: the red-eyed green frog is a nocturnal specimen, for this reason we will find it active at certain times of the night.

Feeding

The red-eyed frog feeds mainly on flies and crickets although these must be specific, the acheta are perfect for example. You can sprinkle vitamin supplements on the insects you give them to improve their nutrient intake. Other feeding options are tenebrio, galleria melonella or agallychnis.

We must make sure that the frog eats properly, so it is advisable to observe it whenever we can.

Care

The care that we must offer to the green frog with red eyes is not very particular, they are similar to the care that we would offer to another frog. The care of the red-eyed tree frog:

The first thing is going to be to find a terrarium for our frog: we will look for a tall terrarium of a minimum of 60 - 70 centimeters in which we can place branches for the frog to climb. The terrarium must be ventilated.

Something very important is to meet its humidity and temperature needs, thus recreating its native climate. For this we will need 80% humidity, something that will improve by spraying the terrarium once a day and offering it a small pond where it can bathe. While the temperature should be around 22 or 24 ºC during the day and 16 or 18 ºC at night, you can use an automatic programmer. Finally add that we must have a light on about 12 hours a day as false sunlight.

We can tell that we are not meeting its basic needs if the frog changes its color.

To finish with the care, note that the frog must be able to enjoy plants and branches to climb regularly. We can use large trunks and leaves of considerable size. A recommendation may be plants of the philodendron genus, although yes, you must install a specific grolux-type light to maintain the growth of the plants.
