The Calmex for dogs is a product that contains different ingredients chosen for their relaxing properties, since, as its name allows us to guess, Calmex is used to calm specimens that are going through situations of nervousness or anxiety.

In this article on our site we will talk about Calmex, how it works, what is its dose, what contraindications must be taken into account and what side effects we can face. But this does not mean that we should happily give it to our dog, without any diagnosis or veterinary control. Only this professional can prescribe Calmex for us.

What is Calmex?

Calmex for dogs is a product that contains a mixture of different amino acids, Piper methysticum and a complex of B vitamins. More specifically, it stands out for its content of the amino acids L-theanine and L-tryptophan and in vitamins B1, B3, B6, B8 and B12. It also carries Piper methyscum, which is a plant with sedative and anesthetic properties. The set is an exclusive formulation that promotes relaxation in dogs. In other words, it is a nutritional supplement with calming effect, it is not a complete food for dogs.

It is presented for oral administration as a yellowish powder that is included inside blue and white capsules. These can be opened for better management and administration. In this way, the dog can be given the whole capsule, as is, or just the powder, simply added to its food. Calmex should be stored protected from direct sunlight, in a cool and dry place and away from the reach of our dog, as well as other animals and children.

What is Calmex for dogs used for?

In view of its composition and thanks to its relaxing properties, Calmex is used in dogs to treat states of anxiety or nervousness generated by situations derived from stress. To do this, it must be administered before the events that, we assume, will trigger your nervousness. For example, when we know that the dog is going to be exposed to:

  • Loud noises that make you uneasy, such as fireworks.
  • Important changes in your daily life.
  • Trips.
  • Operations.
  • Seasons in residences or dog daycare.
  • Or, just arrived at our home and needs to adjust.

We can detect anxiety in our dog if we see it:

  • Tremble.
  • Barking without stopping.
  • Try to hide or run away.
  • He urinates or defecates.
  • Won't stop panting.
  • He is very nervous.
  • Scratch the floor, doors or furniture.

If you recognize these behaviors in your dog, do not give him Calmex, go to the vet first. If a problem of fear, anxiety, stress or a phobia is confirmed, it is important to establish management measures and not just give Calmex or drugs. Calmex is for specific situations of stress.

Dog Calmex for Dogs

The dosage of Calmex depends on the weight of our dog. Thus, the following instructions must be followed:

  • For specimens weighing less than 10 kg, half a capsule will be given.
  • Dogs between 10 and 25 kg in weight will be given one whole capsule.
  • For dogs over 25 kg, the appropriate dose will be two capsules.
  • Dogs 40 to 55 kg will need three capsules.
  • Finally, large and giant specimens from 55 to 70 kg will have to take four capsules.

We are talking about a single administration per day, but, in any case, these data are only a general recommendation, since the dose can be increased by half a capsule if necessary. Of course, the decision on the best dose for our dog can only be made by the veterinarian.
