Is it important to deworm my cat?

Deworming of kittens
From 6 weeks of life, our little kitty is ready to be dewormed. There are calendars that indicate that we should take 3 feeds until we are 3 months old, so we space it in 1 feed every 2 weeks
Normally, to facilitate the process, products are chosen in drops. Puppies are very vulnerable to internal parasites at this stage of their life, which can cause serious he alth problems. But this is at the discretion of the veterinarian depending on the origin of our animal and the exposure it has to these small occasional guests.
On the external level, to cover it from attacks by fleas and ticks, which are the ones that most worry our little one, we find several products:
- Pipettes: ideal for those who have access to the outside such as terraces or gardens and we can apply them up to 1 time per month (according to instructions from each product).
- Sprays: are cheaper but less effective and risk being ingested and causing unnecessary internal damage. Nasal skin allergies may also occur.
- Collars: They are effective for indoor cats but we must get used to them when they are small so that they do not cause discomfort to their body.
There are also home remedies for intestinal parasites in cats that can be useful in an emergency.
Deworming of adult cats
As we said in the previous section, our little kitten will be protected up to 3 months of life, then we must continue with the calendar of its adult stage.
It is common that in the veterinary consultation you find owners who believe that since their cat does not leave the house, and lives alone, it is not exposed to these phenomena. But this is not correct, we can be carriers of parasites that affect our animal. Therefore, we must continue with the schedule proposed by the veterinarian.
- Recommended internally, at least 2 annual dewormings, using drops or pills. As recommended by the veterinarian.
- In the case of external parasites, fleas are the most common and ticks in animals that are outdoors. But the recommended products are the same ones mentioned above (collars, pipettes and spray) and the repetition will be according to each chosen product.
