Known as the love bird, lovebirds or simply lovebirds, we introduce this beautiful African bird that is part of the parakeet family. It is a small, very friendly bird with a good character that lovers of feathered animals love.
In this article on our site we want to teach you how to make the most of your little one's life from birth. There is nothing more beautiful than knowing how to raise baby food inseparable so we will explain their evolution and details about baby food, as well as weaning, when they start to eat alone.
Getting to know the lovebirds
That it belongs to the parakeet family is more than clear from its size, the color of its feathers and the shape of its beak. But why do they call it the love bird? Simple, because ágape means love and you will always see a minimum of 2 specimens together or in flocks. You never see a lovebird alone, only if it is sick.
There is a lot of material on the Internet referring to the species that exist and their specific way of breeding, so I recommend that you visit our post about breeding lovebirds, taking into account details about feeding and the cage among others. Specifically, in this post we will dedicate ourselves to explaining the care of the inseparable newborns who need our help to survive.
Raising of an inseparable papillero
By papillero we mean the bird that was removed from the maternal nest at 20 to 25 days of life, which still does not know how to feed itself by itself and will require all our care. For the famous "weaning " or independence from his mother or ours, we must wait until he reaches 60 days of lifeUntil then we have a "baby at home" who needs us.
Whether we adopt it or if it is given to us, it is important to know that it needs all our dedication to survive, since we are its mother now. The advantage of choosing a papillero is that being raised by a human being will be much more sociable and will get used to other species and handling. They are little animals that have very close contact with their owner and will be much more open to learning things in the future, including talking.
If you are alone, we will be your partner and we must be aware that dedicate several hours a day to your education. Personally, I think it is always better to have a partner of the same species since, in this way, they will be accompanied 24 hours a day.
The porridge, step by step
Our papillero will arrive home with 20 to 25 days of life, without strength to fly yet, almost without feathers but with a lot of desire to scream every time he is hungry.
The chosen porridge can be homemade or bought, to rehydrate, but the main thing we need to know is that it must haveyogurt consistency The latter is very important when feeding, as we do not want to cause filling in the crop (small bag that all birds have as if it were a pre stomach). It should not have lumps and be at a temperature of 37 ºC so that you do not have to spend energy heating it so that it reaches your stomach in good condition. There are 2 ways to feed him: using a syringe without a needle or with a coffee spoon I always recommend the latter since we encourage him to bite himself the spoon.
When we go to choose the porridge if we choose an industrial one it is advisable that it be of high quality, as it will help in the correct aging and nutrition of our little one. Let yourself be guided by the breeder, not by a Petshop, since it will indicate what is most essential. The number of feedings will vary as he grows. We leave you a small guide to better orient yourself:
- From 20 to 25 days: 5 times a day
- From 25 to 30 days: 4 times a day
- From 31 to 45 days: 3 times a day
- From 45 to 60 days: 1 to 2 feedings (he already has his feeder with grains to feed himself)
The amounts in each shot range between 4 ml and 9 ml depending on the size of each one. If there is porridge left over because we prepared a large quantity, it cannot be saved for another serving, we must throw it away and prepare a new one.
We will know that the chick has eaten enough when the crop, located in the neck, is swollen. Remember to be careful not to stain their plumage.
