The Gorillas are the largest primates in existence and have DNA very similar to that of people. These animals are fascinating and arouse people's curiosity, since, like humans, they have two legs and two arms as well as five fingers and toes and a face that has characteristics very similar to those of humans.
They are very intelligent animals and also very strong, proof of this is that a gorilla is capable of destroying a banana tree, to later feed on it.
Strength of an adult gorilla
Compared to humans, gorillas are animals that have four to nine times the strength of an average man. According to the Guinness Book of Records, a silverback gorilla could deadlift up to 815 kilograms, while a properly trained man could lift a maximum 410 kilograms, that is, half the strength of a gorilla.
An experiment conducted in 1924 showed that an adult gorilla can throw with almost 450 kilograms of force, against an average man, which reached a maximum of 100 kilograms, almost five times less than the strength of the gorilla.
Gorillas can show a lot of strength, even more so if you take into account specific movements. For example, gorillas that break bamboo show a strength 20 times greater than that of an average man, this taking into account that they bite bamboo and that we only talk about the specific movement performed to break it.
Aggressiveness of a gorilla
Gorillas, despite being very strong animals, do not use their strength to attack other animals or humans. They only use their strength for self-defense or if they feel threatened, as is the case with other animals. It should be remembered that they are vegetarian animals, therefore they do not use their strength to hunt.
Curiosities of the strength of a gorilla
- Gorillas can weigh 150 to 250 kilograms, yet they are still able to climb trees and move from branch to branch, which shows the incredible strength they have in their arms.
- The gorilla's gripping force is so powerful, it could easily crush a crocodile.
- Gorillas also use the strength of their arms to walk, since they don't just rely on their legs to move around.
