In order to offer a food that truly meets these characteristics, it is essential to prepare it at home, being aware of all the components that we are using, although for this we will use some industrial preparation as a base.
Do you want to offer the best to your little birds? Then you are in the right place, in this article on our site we show you how to make breeding paste for canaries.
The first step will be to gather the ingredients we need to prepare breeding paste for canaries, we can divide them into two groups, the components basic and additional components.
Basic Components:
- Dry pasta: Regardless of the product brand, all types of dry pasta especially for breeding are made following the same formula.
- Breadcrumbs: Its main function, in addition to being used as a basic product that saves pasta, is to allow subsequent enrichment with additional components, such as proteins or vitamins.
- Rusk: Rusk is high-quality baked wheat flour, which gives it a great capacity to absorb water and is therefore essential to give pasta the desired consistency. If we don't have rusk, we can use couscous, with the advantage that the latter is used for human consumption, so it can be obtained more easily.
Additional Components:
- Brewer's yeast (you can use the one used for human consumption, but the specific one for poultry is recommended)
- Negrillo: These seeds are very appetizing for birds and will help us achieve the desired flavor for the pasta
- Powdered vitamin complex: Uses a specific product for birds
- Powdered mineral complex: Uses a specific product for birds
- Omega 3 omega 6: Small sachets are sold with a liquid that has these properties, it is a very good product in small doses that helps the growth of the bird
- Rape (turnip seeds) cooked and washed
- Egg: With the shell included and crushed it offers an extra calcium, very necessary for the development of the pigeons
- Honey: This product of natural origin and untreated is ideal as long as we put small doses
We must clarify that these are the additional components to prepare a standard breeding paste or suitable for any time of the year, however, we can use many more productsin order to create a specific paste for each season of the year.
It is very easy to know how to make breeding paste for canaries, however, we must clearly differentiate four stages in this preparation, in which we will make three different mixtures from the ingredients mentioned above.
We will need a clean bucket to which we will add the dried breeding paste and to a lesser extent the breadcrumbs. Finally, we will proceed to stir until the mixture is homogeneous and of a compact consistency.
In the image we can see the breeding paste that we can find in any store: remember that there are two types of breeding paste, yellow and copper.
The second step of the preparation of the breeding paste for canaries consists of adding a series of ingredients to the previous mixture:
- Beer yeast
- Negrillo
- Egg
- Honey
We will mix everything again very well until we once again have a homogeneous mass.
To start the third stage of preparation we will need another clean bucket, in which we will mix the following ingredients:
- Rusk
- 3/4 parts water
We will wait until the rusk has absorbed all the water and then we will mix this preparation with the paste that we have made previously, we must stir very well, so it will be useful to do it with our hands.
The final consistency of this mixture should be spongy and smooth, we should feel the dough moist but without lumps and it should not stick to the hands, but be completely loose.
Once achieved, we must distribute the product obtained in 1 kilo containers, we will leave one where we will finish the preparation of breeding paste for canaries, and the others will be kept in the freezer until we need a new container. Then and only then should we proceed to the last stage of preparation.
In the image we can see the texture of the rusk.
In the container of the breeding paste for canaries, we must add the following ingredients:
- A tablespoon of powdered vitamin complex
